I am a Ph.D student studying the cognitive impact of multimodal interfaces. My thesis will be an attempt to develop and establish some cognitive principles for the design of multimodal interfaces. The first year of my work has involved working with the PHANToM by SensAble Technologies Inc. Recently, I have had a paper published on the effects (on users' performance) of haptically enhancing a scroll bar in the standard Graphical User Interface. My current research involves looking at the various ways in which the haptic sense both interferes with, and integrates with the other senses.
