My interests are in identifying new ways of human - machine interaction via haptic and graphical devices. As part of that effort I have been cooperating with the Robotics Lab at Stanford University on building a broad Haptic interface library that allows for fast construction, manipulation and sculpting of large 3D haptic and graphic models. My research is focused on building compact and efficient representation of 3D objects (3D compression) as well as the ability to "feel" the objects - different textures, friction, etc. - and sculpt and model them through the PhanTom or other haptic devices. I am assuming that the combined graphical and haptic interface to 3D objects will allow us much richer and powerful interaction as well as the ability to perform tasks that are not possible with either of the technologies separately.
